I thought it would be a film that defies the social norms of reaching a certain age and than settling down. I thought it would be a movie about freedom of choice and about finding fulfillment outside romantic relationships.joannahttp://anynaseo.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2804657780857817119.post-2767848580312511682010-03-28T07:31:47.294-07:002010-03-28T07:31:47.294-07:00Tony:

The set up of this scene as a middle America wedding with all its clichés does have its effect on why Clooney makes the life choice he does.

However, I still think this scene was not up to the standards of the rest of the film.tom hylandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15059595835440742055noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2804657780857817119.post-44095319656952911452010-03-28T05:38:10.000-07:002010-03-28T05:38:10.000-07:00I'm not defending UP IN THE AIR -- I think its...I'm not defending UP IN THE AIR -- I think its shallow "timeliness" will not hold up very well in the coming years -- but I disagree on your assessment of the wedding scene being "a poorly devised plot device to make the ensuing surprise even more of a stunner." I actually think though the two sequences are connected it is only of secondary relevance to the wedding sequence's importance in establishing Clooney's character. The wedding sequence allows us to see where this professional misanthrope came from and why he has grown so insulated, using his job to keep himself at arm's length from the rest of the world.Tony Dayoubhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04632329277519635858noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2804657780857817119.post-61040608620114898342010-03-26T16:20:52.610-07:002010-03-26T16:20:52.610-07:00On Vera Farmiga's character...I get why they h...On Vera Farmiga's character...I get why they had to have that one twist, but it was just so...mean, I guess.
